About Sister-to-Sister

In 1995, Asian American Recovery Services started a conference for middle and high school girls in Santa Clara County. More than thirty years later, the Sister-to-Sister Youth Leadership Conference continues to empower young women and celebrate the Bay Area's diverse cultures and communities.

Since 2023, we have expanded Sister-to-Sister to serve both Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, recognizing that young women throughout the Bay Area can benefit from this leadership and community-building experience.

Asian American Recovery Services (AARS) provides an array of culturally competent behavioral health services to the Asian and Pacific Islander and other ethnically diverse communities of the San Francisco Bay Area. Our programs serve youth, adults, and families in San Francisco, Santa Clara, and San Mateo counties.

AARS was established in 1985 through the community-wide grassroots efforts of the Asian American Substance Abuse Task Force, which was formed in response to the rising substance use rates among San Francisco’s Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) population. AARS became the first substance use residential treatment program targeting AANHPI adults in the nation. Ten years later, AARS opened its doors in Santa Clara County to provide the very first comprehensive outpatient substance use treatment program targeting AANHPI adolescents in the nation. AARS joined the HealthRIGHT 360 family of programs in 2014.

Today, we offer an array of services including outpatient treatment, case management, school-based services, community-based outreach and education, pro-social activities, substance use prevention, and juvenile justice and probation youth services. Our culturally oriented, gender-responsive approaches are delivered by multicultural and multilingual staff who are a part of the communities they serve. AARS maintains its commitment to deliver the most effective and culturally responsive services to AANHPI communities.
